The Davy Jones Auction

Julien’s Auctions returns again to the Big Apple for their annual music memorabilia auction of the year at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square NYC on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th, 2015 beginning at 10:00 a.m. on both days. This is one of the most extraordinary collections of Rock n' Roll royalty to be offered at this exclusive auction event including Property From The Life and Career of Davy Jones.

Davy Jones, singer, actor, and music icon, originally found fame as a member and teen heartthrob of the pop group “The Monkees.” His charming grin, British accent, and musical talents won the hearts of millions of fans in the 1960s and continued until his untimely death at age 66 in 2012.

Highlights from this special collection span Jones’ career as well as his personal life. They include: Davy Jones’ Hollywood Walk of Fame plaque commemorating The Monkees, a Davy Jones Carvin Acoustic Electric guitar with red quilt finish, Davy Jones The Monkees stage worn shirts, Davy Jones Gold Record award for selling over 1,000,000 copies of the hit single “Daydream Believer,” several Davy Jones stage worn ensembles and suits, Davy Jones driver’s license and wallet, a Davy Jones owned and played Epiphone Casino guitar, a large stage used “The Monkees” neon sign, and Davy Jones tour used road cases.

Other highlights include: a Vaudevillian striped red and white coat worn by Davy Jones in concert (circa 1987) which is a costume reminiscent of the costumes worn on “The Monkees” television program (NBC 1966-1968) when the band sang “Cuddly Toy,” a Davy Jones denim suit with guitar pattern, a collection of studio equipment used by Davy Jones, a red director’s chair with “The Monkees” logo across the back stretcher, a collection of framed vintage posters featuring members of “The Monkees,” and a pair of RIAA certified record awards for “The Monkees” hit album “Then and Now ... The Best of The Monkees.”

Additional highlights include an astonishing George Harrison played 1963 Mastersound Electric Guitar. This guitar was used by Harrison in the summer of 1963 when he had it on loan from Barrett's Music Store. According to Andy Babiuk, Harrison’s Country Gent was experiencing problems and brought to Barratt’s in Manchester to be repaired. The Maton was given to Neil Aspinall for Harrison to use while repairs were made. The Country Gent was returned the same day, but Harrison retained the Maton and played it in concert at Margate (July 8 to 13), in Liverpool (August 2), at a photocall at the Cavern (August 3) and when the Beatles played Guernsey, Channel Island (August 6-10). The Australian solid-body guitar has a flame maple natural finish top, dark sides, a sunburst back, mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard, and dot inlays fitted with a Bigsby vibrato and Bigsby bridge.

Also included in this historic auction is a vintage owned Eric Clapton Gibson SG Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar circa 1962, John Lennon's bath robe, Jimi Hendrix worn ring, Frank Sinatra's 1970s-1990s address book, Lady Gaga's stage worn latex body suit and face mask, and a rare Michael Jackson red face mask.
